START-UP

Power To The People

POWER TO THE PEOPLE is a non-profit association dedicated to encouraging and highlighting the creative and intellectual potential of refugees. The project starts in Zurich, and it aims to expand regionally in Switzerland and eventually the world.

In this comprehensive and lively program, refugees are encouraged and trained to create and guide their city tours, bringing their ideas and background in the game.

More than tours, these are experiences in which both visitors and locals encounter art, cuisine, culture, science and sustainability in unique ways while discovering the most vivid and exciting spots in the city. Each tour is an opportunity for the positive exchange of experiences, ideas and contact between guides and participants. Everyone is welcome and can decide what his/her contribution to the tour is.

MAPPING & CONNECTING

installation/reserach

Mapping&Connecting flyer.png

Mapping and connecting is an artistic and social project that performs aerial photography and mapping of neighbouring territories where refugee shelters and art-based spaces lie using DIY techniques with helium balloons, go-pro cameras and recycled elements.

The project started in a module of the MAS ART AND SOCIETY  of the ZHdK in February 2018. The DIY technique was presented and the first mapping was done. Motivated by the personal experiences of a member of the group, who is currently an asylum seeker and lived in the refugee camps and the experiences as artists and Zurich residents of the other members of the module, the group decided to independently start the self-organised Mapping and Connecting project, which explores through artistic and social means the geographical proximity and big potential that lies between immigrants and residents co-living in Zurich. Every stage of the process involves a direct collaboration of refugees and artists living in the shared territories.

At the present time Mapping and Connecting counts with an artistic installation showing the technique and production of the maps; open discussions about urban space, refugee shelters, connecting artists and immigrants and a research online platform and audio data-base.

ABOUT A MARKET

multimedia exhibition

Located in the Viadukt of the Kreis 5 in Zürich, Switzerland, the MARKTHALLE IM VIADUKT is not simply a place to buy or sell local and international products, moreover a space where ideas, experiences, traditions, customs and conversations within local producers, sellers, residents, visitors, families and friends are in constant exchange.

This project is an exploration of how one can approach, experience and perceive a place through old and new technologies. With polaroid photographs, a documentary short film, 360degree videos and fictional short stories, ABOUT A MARKET is an essay on the different posibilites each media can bring to reflection on storytelling, everyday life situations and the importance of social spaces.
